Terms of Service
Last updated: January 2025
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using LegitimateLand ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Platform.
2. Platform Description
LegitimateLand is a participatory land mapping and claims documentation platform. It allows users to draw parcel boundaries, document land claims, upload evidence, gather community attestations, and resolve overlapping claims through structured dispute pathways.
Important Notice
LegitimateLand is NOT a government land registry. Claims documented on this platform are user-generated assertions and do not constitute legal proof of ownership, title, or rights to any land. The Platform is intended to complement, not replace, formal land administration systems.
3. User Accounts
- You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the Platform
- One person may not maintain more than one account
4. User Content and Claims
You retain ownership of content you submit (evidence files, descriptions, statements). By submitting content, you grant LegitimateLand a worldwide, royalty-free license to display, store, and process your content as necessary to operate the Platform.
You represent and warrant that:
- Information in your claims is truthful and accurate to the best of your knowledge
- You have the right to upload any evidence files you submit
- Your use of the Platform does not violate any applicable laws
5. Public Records
By default, claim records (parcel geometry, claim type, description, and public evidence) are visible to anyone. Your personally identifiable information (name, email, phone) is never included in public records. You understand and agree to this public-by-default approach.
6. Dispute Resolution
When overlapping claims are detected, affected parties will be notified and may enter a structured dispute resolution process. You agree to participate in good faith in any dispute resolution process initiated by the Platform. The Platform does not make legal determinations about land ownership.
7. Prohibited Conduct
- Submitting false or fraudulent claims
- Harassing or intimidating other users
- Uploading malicious files or content
- Attempting to manipulate the dispute resolution process
- Using automated tools to create bulk claims
- Impersonating another person or organization
8. Limitation of Liability
LegitimateLand is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the Platform, including but not limited to reliance on claim records, dispute outcomes, or any decisions made based on Platform data.
9. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, your personal information will be removed, but public claim records may be retained in anonymized form.
10. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
